Helm chart diagram

See your Helm chart as a diagram.

Make a Helm chart diagram in seconds: paste the output of helm template and LetDraw draws the Deployments, Services, Ingresses, ConfigMaps and Secrets it creates, with the links between them. Paste a Chart.yaml instead to map the chart and its subcharts. It runs in your browser, and the result is fully editable.

Step by step

How to make a Helm chart diagram

From a chart folder to a shareable diagram in a minute, right in your browser.

  1. Render the chart

Run helm template with your release name, chart and values to get plain manifests, or open the chart's Chart.yaml.

  2. Paste it into LetDraw

Open Generate from Code (a Pro feature) from the More menu or the command palette and paste. The format is detected automatically.

  3. Tune the preview

Pick a top-down or left-right layout, switch on Add icons, and hide relationship types you do not need.

  4. Insert and share

Insert it onto the canvas, edit it like any drawing, share a link or export it as PNG, SVG or PDF.

The rendered output shows what the chart deploys: Services link to the workloads their selector matches, Ingresses to their backend Services, and workloads to the ConfigMaps, Secrets and volume claims they use, framed per namespace when one is set. Chart.yaml shows the chart itself, with each subchart dependency, its version and its condition.

  • Warnings for broken links, such as a selector that matches no workload
  • Add icons stamps Kubernetes icons onto the rendered resources
  • Drift vs last compares with your previous import: added in green, removed in red

When a Helm chart diagram pays off

Charts hide a lot behind templates and values. A picture makes them easy to talk about.

Chart reviews

Check what a chart really deploys with your values before it reaches a cluster.

Onboarding to a chart

Help new teammates understand a third-party or in-house chart without reading every template.

Upgrade comparisons

Render the old and new versions, then use Drift vs last to see which resources and links changed.

Debugging selectors

Spot a Service that selects nothing or a missing ConfigMap from the warnings and the missing arrows.

Subchart maps

Paste Chart.yaml to see which subcharts an umbrella chart pulls in and under which condition.

Chart documentation

Export the diagram as SVG or PNG and put it in the chart README or your team wiki.

Questions

Helm chart diagram FAQ

Is the Helm chart diagram free?
Generate from Code, which turns rendered charts and Chart.yaml into a diagram, is included in Pro. Drawing by hand, templates, shape libraries and export to PNG, SVG and PDF are free on the Free plan, with no credit card.
Should I paste the templates or the helm template output?
Paste the output of helm template. Templates only become real manifests once Helm renders them with your values, and the rendered YAML is what LetDraw reads to find every resource and link.
What does Chart.yaml show?
The chart with its version and app version, plus one box per dependency. Each arrow carries the subchart version and its condition, and the repository is shown on the box when it is set.
Can I edit the diagram after it is generated?
Yes. It is inserted as ordinary shapes, arrows and frames, so you can move, restyle and annotate it, edit it together in real time, and export it as PNG, SVG or PDF.

See what your chart really deploys.

Open LetDraw in your browser, paste the rendered chart and get a diagram you can edit. Fast, and nothing to install.
